Reviewers | Blue Streak

Blue Streak focuses on Miles Logan (Martin Lawrence), a cocky fast-talking jewel thief who has just spent the last two years in jail after a botched jewel heist. Now a free man, Logan is determined to retrieve the diamond he hid on the night of his arrest. However, by a stroke of bad luck the building Logan hid the diamond in has now become a Police Station.

Review

What would you do if a diamond, valued at 17 Million, which you want to steal was hidden inside a Police Station? This is the exact scenario facing Miles Logan (Martin Lawrence) in Blue Streak. Over 90-minutes, he goes undercover as a Detective to infiltrate the Police Station and steal the diamond. Faced with the challenges of modern day policing, including solving crimes; inter-agency working and drugs busts – Miles must use his criminal expertise, unusual dance moves, and occasional quick wittedness to outthink, outfox, and outmanoeuvre everyone to succeed. While Blue Streak takes the audience along a cop procedural narrative, it best serves as a comedy as its witty-one liners, amusing character interactions and unusual facial expressions will engage the audience and leave them laughing every fifteen minutes or so. Yes, the script has many plot holes and Miles antics are extremely impractical but this only increases the laughable nature of the film and leaves the audience wanting more and wondering whether he will succeed. Overall, Blue Streak will have many audiences giggling along at a steady pace but it could have done more to become a great, memorable comedy. Ultimately, it is a film that the audience will laugh to but quickly forget once the credits have rolled.

Comments:

While the story of Blue Streak will not keep audiences entertained for that long and will have them shaking their heads in disbelief over the stupidity of the police officers depicted in its 90-minute runtime. The real source of entertainment comes from the acting of Martin Lawrence, as he tries to convince the police officers he is one of their own, after ingeniously trying to impersonate a pizza deliveryman to gain access to the building. All in all Blue Streak is one of those films, which will make you smile, due to its sheer idiocy, time and time again.

Reviewer 2's score & comments:

Score: 7 out of 10

Comments:

Blue Streak showcases the comedic talents of Martin Lawrence, as it takes the audience through a 90-minute script that will leave them smiling, laughing and equally wondering how the writers came up with the idea for the film. While the script is not designed to be overly complicated or action-packed, its comedic undertones complete with funny facial expressions from the actors and a natural chemistry allows the film to progress at a steady speed with a nice momentum that will keep the audience entertained throughout. Overall, Blue Streak is not a film for anyone looking for a serious action film but anyone looking to relax and occasionally laugh to juvenile humour will really enjoy it. It is a film that does not take itself too seriously and one that will have the audience laughing along without any major issues.
