Based on the late 80’s / early 90’s TV series of the same name, created by Stephen J. Cannell and Patrick Hasburgh, 21 Jump Street is a 2012 action comedy starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Although, 21 Jump Street starts slowly by explaining the differing high school experiences of Morton Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Greg Jenko (Channing Tatum) and seems destined to fail, it quickly picks up pace, as Morton and Greg work together to pass the gruelling Police Academy. Once placed on bicycle patrol, around the films 15-minute mark, the audience’s early concerns are quickly forgotten, as 21 Jump Street flourishes into a genuinely funny police-themed comedy. Making use of silly but non-the-less memorable props, such as, Korean Jesus and witty one-liners including “do you even know the Miranda Rights? It obviously starts with...you the right to...remain an attorney...” and “one particle of unobtainium has a nuclear reaction with the flux capacitor – carry the ‘2’ – changing its atomic isotoner into a radioactive spider”, 21 Jump Street will have audiences laughing out loud as Morton and Greg’s undercover assignment develops. Overall, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the co-directors, have created a refreshing comedy that delivers a surprisingly versatile and enjoyable viewing experience. 21 Jump Street never takes itself too seriously and is an action comedy that never seems over-the-top...it blends a great script with high-octane action scenes, funny set pieces, and overtly stereotypical, rich comedic characters to create a film that will genuinely leave audiences in a good mood.

In this modern remake, comedy duo Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum take centre stage with their ridiculous humour and resounding chemistry that serves to entice the audience from the opening scene. Their comedic brilliance sets the tempo for the rest of the film, which never fails deliver thanks in part to its marvellous script.

21 Jump Street beautifully blends the high octane, rapidly shifting script and rich characters found in a police procedural with genuinely witty one-liners and funny comedic interplay between the entire cast to create a refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable action comedy. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, particularly, deliver noteworthy performances as a pair of bumbling cops who, through their own stupidity and a macabre of luck, happen to come together at the right moment to catch the criminals. 21 Jump Street is a film that audiences should watch after a hard day as it will have them laughing and forgetting all their problems.
