Reviewers | Insurgent

Watching The Detectives is a romantic comedy that revolves around Neil, a film buff who spends time watching / quoting films instead of living life, who is thrown into a series of chaotic and crazy events as he meets Violet, a real life Femme Fatale who enjoys living her life to the fullest.

Review

Watching The Detectives is a 90-minute romantic comedy that skipped theatrical release and was released on DVD instead. While the films premise sounded promising – a film buff whose life is turned upside down by a Femme Fatale – in reality it failed virtually straight out of the gate. The film fails to explain or develop the characters, is slow, and full of clichés, its comedic value is limited to one or two one-liners in the middle of the film, and the ending is so boring it should face criminal charges. The Reviewers struggled throughout this film / review to find a nice word to say about it – they collectively agree its best moment was its ending credits. Overall, Watching The Detectives is a romantic comedy that showcases the very worst that Hollywood has to offer, it is a ‘snooze fest’ from start to finish and should only be watched by someone who is interested in understanding the art of how not to make a movie.

Though Watching the Detectives is focussed on being a romantic comedy I can safely say it fails on both accounts. Even the on-screen chemistry between the main actors is so wrong that it had the Reviewers questioning how such a ridiculously bad film could make it out of production. The story seemed hastily put together and tried too hard to fit into the romance and comedy genres, if we could assign a negative score to this I would gladly do so. Do not under any circumstances watch this film, and if you still do not trust my judgement watch the trailer, as this should have been enough to put us off this film.

What can I say about Watching The Detectives? As there are so many things wrong with this film. Firstly, where are the detectives? This film is titled incorrectly...it should be called Watching The Diatribe, but I am assuming the director did not want to give me more ammunition to work with. Secondly, what was the point of this film? Seriously, I am still baffled by it – where was the storyline or character development. Thirdly, can I get compensation for watching this (even though I did not pay for it)? As I feel it was that bad the Director / Producers ought to give me a monetary reward for reviewing it. Fourthly, and luckily finally, did the Director / Producers contact the CIA prior to making this film? If not, I think they should because it would make a great addition to their advanced interrogation (torture) program – as anyone who is forced to watch this film will gladly spill their secrets as it is that bad / tortuous to watch. Overall, this film is just plain rubbish.
