The Mighty Ducks trilogy is a series of three action comedy films released between 1992 to 1996 that were so commericially successful commercially that they inspired the creation of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (NHL Team). The Mighty Ducks trilogy starts with the first film: Mighty Ducks starts the trilogy off slowly as Gordon Bombay (Emilo Estavez), a hotshot lawyer who hates hockey after missing a penalty shot when he was a child, is put in charge of District 5 – a peewee hockey team that has not won a game. The first film fleshes out Gordon Bombay and the other main characters including Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson) and Adam Banks (Vincent Larusso) and introduces the Ducks and their signature ‘Flying V’. It is a reasonably good film and sets the series up nicely. The second film D2, is arguably the best of the trilogy as it sees Coach Bombay and some of the Ducks return to represent their country as Team USA at the Junior Goodwill Games. D2 avoids being boring by introducing new characters to the mix and by exploring the pressures / distractions that a winning team must put up with. D2 blends comedy with action and superb acting from both the main and supporting cast. The trilogy ends with D3, or as it is unofficially known as the Eden Hall year, it sees Coach Bombay leave the Ducks as they battle the prestigious Eden Hall Warriors Hockey Team. While the third film is a decent end to the trilogy, the passing of Hans (the teams mentor) and the ham-fisted nature of certain scenes let the film down. Overall, the Mighty Ducks Trilogy is three unique and entertaining comedic hockey films that will always be relevant and fun.

Comments:
Every film in this trilogy is an exhilarating and exciting tale of friendship and teamwork. The cast of the Mighty Ducks all deliver brilliant performances and the transitions between each film are seamless and blend nicely with the actors aging. The surprising cameo of legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky adds a surprise element to the story and is a great treat for hockey fans. Unfortunately, the third instalment of the franchise failed to live up to the standards set by the preceding films.

Comments:
The Mighty Ducks Trilogy was a staple of my childhood. If you were born or grew up in the 90s and have not watched these films you have missed out. The trilogy is comedic, action-packed and contains witty one-liners, goofy hockey tactics, and the occasional special guest hockey star. While D1 and D3 are not as good as D2, the trilogy overall is a blast that will have you jumping with excitement and screaming ‘Flying V’ at every twist and turn.
