Review

Fast and Furious is the fourth instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise. It connects the first film with the second instalment 2 Fast 2 Furious, while acting as a prequel to the third instalment: The Fast and the Furious (hopefully that is not as confusing as it sounds). The film contains the usual high-octane, NOS fuelled driving scenes that audiences expect from the franchise. However, its plotline reads like a bad cliché from the previous movies as Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker), who is back working from the FBI, must rekindle his relationship with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) to infiltrate a gang. This poor imitation of the previous films, most notably The Fast and the Furious (2001), makes the audience question why Director Justin Lin did not ask Chris Morgan (the writer) to just reboot the original film. Overall, this film comes across as a movie made on the fly for the purpose of cashing in on the franchises previous success, while entertaining it will leave the audience wanting more.

After the previous three films, I was expecting so much more from this film. The story to me seemed ill thought out and predictable in every sense. Even the cars and races featured were a bit disappointing, it made me think that this film was made as an afterthought to explain things from Tokyo Drift rather than as a stand-alone film.

When the discussion came up to review the 2009 Fast and Furious film, the fourth in the series, my heart sank, and I nearly had a slight breakdown. I thought to myself 'what they made another one, on top of the three they had already made'. Once I recovered, I discovered my fears were well founded - Fast and Furious basically is a copy of previous films, just with different cars. The same old characters, same old plotlines and same old high speed driving.
