Gone Girl is a mystery thriller that sees Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) report his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) missing on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary. Under pressure from Police and a growing media frenzy Nick's portrayal of a blissful marriage starts to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behaviour has everyone asking whether he murdered his wife.

Review

Based on the 2012 novel of the same name, Gone Girl is a 142-minute psychological thriller. While the premise of the film i.e. that a husband comes home to find his famous wife, who was the inspiration for a series of popular children's books, missing and is blamed for her disappearance is plausible. The films application of this premise through the use of flashbacks seems at times a bit uncoordinated and fails to really add anything to the film. However, the films suspenseful nature, especially as the pressure mounts on Nick (Ben Affleck), combined with one or two suprising moments, such as, the ending, prevents the film from being a complete flop. Overall, Gone Girl is an interesting, semi-believable game of cat and mouse that leaves the audience wondering who is the bigger psychopath.

Comments:

Based upon the bestseller by Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl is a enticing thriller that had both of the reviewers questioning every detail from the films start to its enthralling conclusion. While the second half of the film seemed rushed and at times somewhat predictable, the film was still entertaining and memorable.

Comments:

I did not really get this film. Yes the premise, script and acting was decent. However, the storyline felt that it had been ripped from a newspaper headline, the police were determined to blame the husband and the community went from being nice to evil in less time than it took to make a cup of tea. Overall, this film is worth a watch but its re-watch value is low.
