When you combine the production talents of Jerry Bruckheimer, the directing skills of Ridley Scott and the credentials and experience of an acting ensemble including William Fichtner, Josh Hartnett and Ewan McGregor you know you are in for a good film. However, Black Hawk Down is not just a good film it is an excellent film. While the film starts slow and you wonder how the cast and crew are going to take a well-documented event i.e. the attempted capture of Somalian Warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid and turn it into a 138-minute film. The film then quickly picks up speed and rapidly turns into a dark, action-packed, blockbuster that will have the audience on the edge of their seats. Every twist, turn and bullet fired engulfs the audience further and takes them through the harsh realities of Mogadishu (the Mog), and shows how one event can change ordinary people into extraordinary heroes.

Black Hawk Down is a visceral, pulse pounding portrayal of war that focuses more on the experiences of the combat troops rather than trivializing them into purely entertainment value. A fantastic blend of acting, superb directing and breathtaking cinematography helps deliver a chilling account of events that leave a lasting impression on the audience.

When you watch this film only one part stays with you and that is how the action shifts from a peaceful mission to an all out battle for survival after ‘we’ve got a Black Hawk Down, we’ve a Black Hawk Down. Super 6-1 is down’ is said. This line is one of the most memorable is cinema history for good reason, you know something bad is about to happen from just the way the actors say the line. Away from this line, the film is well crafted and is reasonably good but, in places, some of the characters do not seem fleshed out and some scenes do not really add to the film.
