Review

The Raven is a thrilling tale worthy of the literary genius of Edgar Allan Poe. It is a rich, dark tale that takes an axe to its competition, in the thriller genre, and leaves them cursing the raven forevermore. While the film was an enjoyable affair that effortlessly blends the crime and thriller genres together and explores the final days of Edgar Allan Poe's life, it could have easily been mistaken at times for a Victorian Sherlock Holmes movie instead. However, overall, the film was entertaining from start to finish.

Comments:

The Raven is a film that brilliantly blends the tales of Edgar Allan Poe into a highly enjoyable and mesmerising tale. What makes this film stand out from the rest is how Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack) must follow clues to solve his own tales, such as, the Masque of the Red Death and the Pit and the Pendulum. Overall, this film is highly enjoyable and kept me on the edge of my seat all the way to the dramatic conclusion.

Comments:

A story about the darkest works of Edgar Allan Poe could have easily been a flop, but Director John McTeigue and the cast of the Raven, especially John Cusack, managed to create a thrilling tale. While the film, at times, was predictable and somewhat slow - it was an enjoyable film that, like the death of Edgar Allan Poe, was shrouded in mystery and left you guessing who the killer was up until the very end.
