Elysium is a film about a society which has been divided into two factions; the very wealthy who live on a man-made space station (Elysium) and the rest who live on an over-crowded, ruined earth. Max (Matt Damon) takes on a life threatening mission that could bring equality to these polarized factions.

Review
This film starts off slow with Max (Matt Damon) doing nothing more than going to work and Delacourt (Jodie Foster) shooting down some shuttlecrafts, although it does pick up pace when Max is involved in a work related accident and attempts to save himself, his friends daughter and the people of earth. However, the film suffers from some major flaws, such as, a poor supporting cast, a storyline lacking imagination and an ending that could be seen a mile off.

Comments:
While the film featured some stunning visual effects and great acting by the main protagonist, the film was ultimately let down by jittery camera shots, poor action sequences and terrible supporting actors who did little more than distract the audience from what could of been, in theory, an excellent film.

Elysium is essentially a film about a boy who becomes a man and then delivers on a childhood promise. While it delivers, through a stark sub-plot, a warning about the over ‘populisation’ of earth in the coming years, the film is ultimately no more than a space-age tale of sacrifice for the greater good and the issues surrounding class warfare between the rich and poor.
